“Horse racing has been a long-standing tradition in my husband’s family for generations. It was his deep-rooted passion that soon became a signification part of my life. Like many, my glimpse into the world of equine came from the silver screen, showcasing some of the most legendary horses in history. That changed when I married and relocated to Texas. Residing at a ranch allowed me to observe how a horse’s success hinges on the relentless dedication, unwavering sacrifice, and well-being of everyone involved. The exposure sparked an interest that has since flourished into profound knowledge and passion over the past seven years. Today it is a shared bond in our family that even our four-year-old son cherishes. We immerse ourselves in all aspects of equine life including riding, racing, and most recently breeding.”

In 2017, the Castillo’s commenced their breeding operations at their horse ranch located in Kaufman, Texas. Their foundation mare, Distant fury, brought them great success as a finalist in the grade 1 Rainbow Futurity. She placed in multiple stakes races and was a former track record holder at Ruidoso Downs with a speed index of 110.

Their horse racing team, HWD Racing Stables, which stands for Hard Work and Dedication, is led by head trainer Hemerio Hernandez. They compete year-round in top level meets throughout the country including Remington Park, Lone Star, Ruidoso Downs, and Los Alamitos. Their stable is a blend of privately purchased horses and homebreds, each representing their commitment to excellence in the sport.
